Trivia from 03 - Mother

  • Look Carefully:
When Al falls into the lake's shore, it looks like he is totally immersed in the water. However, only his bottom half is in the water; in the next shot, he is shown propping himself on one elbow, thus keeping his chest out of the water.

  • The Meaning Behind Roy Mustang's Name:
Roy's name is derived from the P-51 Mustang, an American fighter aircraft used during World War II.

  • Anime Vs. Manga:
According to the Manga, it was suppose to take Ed three years to be able to move freely again, but, he was able to do it in a year. This seems to still hold true in the Anime because he is ten when he tries to bring his mother back, and he is eleven when he is moving again.

  • Goof: Letters from Hohenheim Elric:
When Ed slams his hands down on a stack of envelopes after their mother falls ill, he tells Al that they were all the letters their father wrote to them. However, the envelopes are addressed to Hohenheim Elric, not from him.

  • Hohenheim, Ed and Al's father, is named after sixteeth century alchemist Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, better known by his alias Paracelsus. Paracelsus was known for studying how 'alchemy' (what would today be called chemistry) affected the human body. Of course, the real Hohenheim used this 'human alchemy' in the study of the effects of poisons and medicine, rather than resurrecting the dead.

  • Trisha Elric makes her first major speaking appearance.

  • Winry's dog has all legs intact when she, Ed, and Al are first shown in the episode, but later the dog has automail.

  • The term "homunculi" is mentioned for the first time by Ed.

  • The faces of Winry's parents are never shown.

  • This is the first of seven episodes (3-9) that happen in the past, when Ed and Al are growing up. This episode starts when Ed is 4 and Al is 3 and ends when Ed is about 11 and Al is 10. The bulk of the show happens when Ed is 15, and Al is 14
